The Festival is pleased to announce that Holt Town Council (£250) and Norfolk County Council Arts Project Fund (£750) have both made grants. Festival Chairman Rhu Bruce Lockhart says "Both bodies have limited funds available and many worthy causes chasing them. We are most grateful for their support".
Our aim is to get to a position where the Festival will be financially viable without the help of public funding. We think this is achievable within two to three years as the list of local business and philanthropic support grows. During the interim period we will still need help to 'bridge the gap'.
The Festival is still at a point where it is developing management systems and putting officers in place who will want to be involved with the Festival for several years and not just a single season. It is a constant process of learning, listening and adjusting.
This year the Festival has a budget of about £120,000 and needs around £40,000 to cover its administration costs. Once that point is reached every £1,000 goes entirely towards performance and 65% of our events also attract box office revenues which help to extend the Festival's offer. Roughly speaking we need a further £40,000 for performance, and underwriting makes up the shortfall.
The challenge is to retain the loyalty of sponsors, advertisers, and donors and to expand that base to the point where the Festival can make its own way without public help. We also need to keep the performance bar high and keep the Festival accessible, eclectic and fun.
Philanthropy enables fortunate individuals to give something back to the community in which they live; it can be and should be fun. Many of our principle donors have joined our Board of Trustees and are closely involved with the direction and shape of the Festival. If you are interested please get in touch.

Holt Summer Festival is pleased to announce that North Norfolk District Council Arts Department and Orchestras Live have made substantial donations towards the cost of the concert to be given by The Academy of St Martin-in-the-Fields. One of the highlights of the concert will be a performance of Vivaldi's Guitar Concerto with Morgan Szymanski as soloist.
Festival Chairman, Rhu Bruce Lockhart writes "We are immensely grateful to Brenda Seymour, the Arts Department of North Norfolk District Council, and Orchestras Live for making it possible to bring performance of this quality to the Festival. Without such generous help we would simply not be able to afford to spend so much on one concert. This really represents a wonderful opportunity for our community and its visitors to be able to enjoy a performance by a famous orchestra at modest ticket prices."
The Coutts Charitable Trust has joined the list of donors to this year's Festival. Coutts is often thought of as a London bank but it operates throughout the Country and has helped local entrepreneurs invest in the community. Rhu Bruce Lockhart says "At a difficult time for banks it is heartening to see a traditional institution like Coutts quietly supporting the Arts in a rural community."
Don't forget to buy a prize draw ticket, and the chance to win a brand new Toyota Aygo Blue from Dingles Toyota. As well this excellent top prize there is also the chance to win a night’s dinner B&B, and a meal for six people at Byfords Café, Deli and Posh B&B in Holt. Tickets are only £1 each and can be purchased from Byfords as well as many other local businesses in Holt, with all profits going to the Festival.
